GOGEBIC COUNTY, MI – An Upper Peninsula man says he is concerned after the emergency exit door on an airplane he was in ripped off moments before his flight.
Tom Yon of Wakefield told KBJR-TV in Wisconsin that he plans to take his concerns to the Gogebic County Board after the incident, which took place on a small, 8-person plane flown by Boutique Airlines, a private aircraft company, during a flight from Minneapolis to Ironwood.
Ton says he was seated just feet from the door when he heard a loud bang. Soon after the door to the plane was gone and his carry-on bag was sucked out of the opening, according to the TV station.

KBJR 6 during an interview what it was like when the incident happened. “We were just about to take off probably going, I don’t know 100 miles per hour, and the door just flew off, a loud bang, and the door flew off and the noise and the wind and everything. I didn’t even see my bag get sucked out of the plane. I got it right here, this bag right here, got sucked right out of the plane. They gave it to me about an hour after take-off.”

Tom Yon, a Michigan man who was seated next to the exit, told his story to KARE 11 news partner KBJR. He was on a small eight-person plane flown by private aircraft company Boutique Airlines, headed to Ironwood, Michigan. At about 3 p.m. Wednesday, the plane was picking up speed to take off when the door next to Yon flew open.
