BJP MP from Darjeeling, Raju Bista, writes that political violence in Bengal will not end until those who indulge in such acts are dealt with in the same way as terrorists.
When my name was announced as the candidate from the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency in West Bengal, I still remember the first few calls I received from my family and close friends.
I found it peculiar that most who called first congratulated me and cautioned me immediately after. âWe are so happy, you will be contesting from the Darjeeling, but please be careful, it is Bengal after allâ said my childhood friend.

Purba Bardhaman (West Bengal) [India], April 21 (ANI): A day before their electoral fates will be sealed in the sixth phase of assembly polls, candidates on eight seats of Purba Bardhaman spent the day taking stock of their preparedness, spent time with their families or took care of polling day logistics.
Some candidates also caught up with their friends after a hectic campaign schedule. Some others took care of booth management to ensure that there are polling agents on every booth in the elections which is being keenly fought.

Purba Bardhaman (West Bengal) [India], April 19 (ANI): The spike in the COVID-19 cases has changed the way of campaign in Purbasthali Uttar constituency in Purba Bardhaman which will go the polls in the sixth phase of Bengal polls on April 22. The crowd is thin, shrill speeches have been replaced by the party songs played on e-rickshwas and those campaigning are donning masks, some on face, some on chins.
While Bharatiya Janata Party and Trinamool Congress have had rallies in the constituency in one of the most aggressively fought state elections, Sanyukt morcha candidate Pradip Kumar Saha, who belongs to CPI(M), has to make do with potho sabhas .
