space of downtown joplin, missouri, the path went from the left to the right. you see the hospital there to the left side and walmart to your right. and you can tell how this cut right through, andrea, the entire southern half of the joplin city limits. this is, you know, historical. i wouldn t be surprised if we end up maybe top ten death toll all time with this storm. bill karins, thank you very much on top of that throughout the day. and this news just in. this breaking news, because of the volcano ash from the volcano in iceland, the trajectory of that plume has now shifted. the president will be leaving ireland rather than staying overnight. he s going to head to london tonight and overnight there. he will not change the rest of his trip, at least not currently planned. but, again, air traffic in europe is being interrupted once again as it was significantly last year by that volcano in iceland. and now the 2012 republican field taking shape as we have been saying with one g
martin, from a democratic perspective, who are the democrats worried most about? i don t think you have to worry about any of the individuals. the president has to be worried about the economy. if the economy isn t doing well, whoever the republican nominee is will make a strong race. if the economy is doing well, obama will be in very good shape. the republicans have an interesting situation here. either going to go with an insider or an outsider. romney really now is an insider. he s run before. he has establishment support. the other two, pawlenty and huntsman would be considered outsiders and the question is what is the public mood, does the public want an insider or want somebody who is new and different and i think we ll find that out. but the race is going to be determined by the economy and i don t think it makes too much difference at this stage, which of those three will be the republican nominee. martin, fred, thank you very much. up next, ambassador martin endic joi
mark halperin was traveling with huntsman over the weekend. how did he play in new hampshire, retail politics, new hampshire style, first time out. how did it go? really impressive and not just grading on the curve given it was his first time doing any retail politics in this race. he s been in china for two years. i was pretty impressed by both governor huntsman, ambassador huntsman and his wife. he went into a gun shop, went into a vfw hall, into a harley store, he spoke fluent mandarin with some chinese students who he met, he did lots of the kind of retail stuff, town meeting, and in every respect, wasn t a perfect candidate, but very strong, great connection with the voters and a message i think that was going to play very well in new hampshire. well, is he a first tier candidate, a second tier candidate? what about all the hunger in the party for waiting for superman, waiting for chris christie, waiting for another big figure to come in, and i don t mean that in terms of chri
throughout his life. i may be wrong. there is not a lot of research to look at on this, polling or focus groups, but i think the two biggest complaints goagains huntsman, he served as an ambassador in this administration and he s got some positions, current position and past positions that are out of step with the mainstream of the party. i don t think those will keep him from being the nominee. i think there are answers to all those questions that will play well. if he s got an economic message, it is better than romney and pawlenty, those will matter and he ll be the nominee. mark halperin, thank you very much. thank you. breaking news now, of course, tragedy in missouri. the single deadliest tornado in 60 years kills at least 90 people. the death toll expected to rise and more bad weather already today. details coming up here next. too much on your plate?
i mean large figure politically. i think you need a collapse of all three, or two of the three, romney, pawlenty and huntsman. huntsman is a first tier candidate. tim pawlenty and mitt romney have a lot of strengths. if all three hit their full potential, the best political athlete in the race based on what i ve seen in a limited way so far is jon huntsman. he has the potential, i think, a greater potential as a general election candidate going up against barack obama to match him in terms of a lot of obama s strengths that make him a formidable candidate. what about in a republican primary where he has to explain that he just left working for this administration. in a diplomatic role, and people used to say that politics stopped at the water s edge, but it has been many decades since that was actually true in the republican party. there is certainly some republicans who won t like that. in new hampshire it was just the opposi opposite. he called it a call to service. one party o
