The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday won 140 seats out of the 186 village panchayat bodies which went to polls on August 10, said Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
As many as 186 panchayat bodies will go to polls in Goa on Wednesday with more than 5,000 candidates in the fray, an official from the state election commission said on Tuesday.
Goa Panchayat Polls: A total of 8,27,099 voters are eligible to cast their votes, including 4,01,725 male voters and 4,25,372 female voters, along with two belonging to the third gender.
The Supreme Court dismissed a plea filed by the Goa government against a strongly-worded judgment of the Bombay High Court which had quashed the decision of State of Goa to postpone elections to 186 panchayats.
