vantage point, there s talks that these next sequester cuts, because they re primarily defense cuts, it gives democrats a little more leverage in these negotiations. a lot of folks look at the modern republican party as is sort of its rated by the likes of rand paul. cutting the defense budget has not proved to be as painful this go around as it has been in earlier go arounds or the suggestion has not carried with it as much weight. i wonder from your vantage point as a democrat in the house how effective a bargaining tool the defense cuts are. first of all, we have to take a look at these defense cuts. the first round that we took in sequestration we were able to pull moneys that were in other places and sort of move forward, but these next cuts will be cutting way deep, especially into the ability for our troops to be ready to be sent off if we should need them. but more importantly, the reason i believe that republicans will
uptick in the amount of foreign carriers aborting their landings or requesting go arounds. this all went into effect last week and is only temporary as the airport upgrades its electronic systems to help pilots land. that system known as the glide slope indicator was taken offline before the crash to upgrade its system. now, the faa, brooke, did not elaborate as to why foreign pilots are impacted by this, but as you can imagine, this has the potential to generate some controversy because domestic pilots are not impacted. they re only saying they re targeting foreign carriers because they saw this uptick in the amount of aborted landings. brooke? that s what i wanted to know. no effect on the domestic pilots whatsoever. dan simon at sfo for us. dan, thank you. coming up next, cnn pop, including a look at pop culture stories making headlines, including which cnn anchor was named one of the 50 most

the window, and they are land on different runways and well separate and not a problem there. go-arounds are fairly routine and it is not a big deal or dangerous whatsoever, but it is a little bit annoying to the the pilot of the go-around aircraft, because you are prepared to land and want to get the passengers on the ground, but in this particular case, we have a series of flaws as i see it. we had one where the controller who was handling the president s wife plane knew that the airplane was carrying some high-level people. the call sign alone would let them know that. and i would think that, really, the mindset, i would like to see is that, hey, we want to make certain that this airplane gets special handling and we don t want anything to go wrong here and you will give extra space if anything and not something marge y
have been working on for some time this morning, that is that a medevac plane trying to land at the reno airport early this morning, very early hours, was unable to raise anyone in the tower. finally after two go arounds had to land on his or her own with a very critical patient on board the plane. apparently unable to raise the tower. sources suggested that the controller may have been asleep inside the tower. we re waiting to see what the faa says about this, but this information now coming from the ceo ofç the reno airport, confirming they had an incident overnight. this would be the third incident in as many weeks in which a controller was asleep or allegedly asleep in the tower and not responding to radio calls. one of them, of course, here at reagan national airport, back on march 23rd when two commercial planes were not able to raise the controller in the tower. they landed on their own. and then another incident about
