independent and swing democrats, they came out and told us what they wanted. they wanted leaders who were bold, who were courageous, who make tough decisions. i felt mitt romney showed he was a reformer who could win in wisconsin. a few weeks back when he put paul ryan on the ticket, it took that point and took it much further forward not just because paul is from wisconsin, but because they view his tran transparen transparency. i raise this because you did, too. i don t mean to be a fact checker. but on the janesville gm plant, ittant is true it closed during the bush administration? is your criticism the auto bailout wasn t big enough to come back and reopen it? that was not barack obama shutting down the plant. it had two rounds of layoffs and closed down a few years ago, but it s a good example of what happens here. the irony is people said the ba bailout was good in places like
most of that stuff we knew. the only thing that has s happened over the past month or so, most significant thing i guess is paul ryan. is he, he is the guy gotten out there on the campaign trail, talking about how my buddies worked in this plant and my high school friends worked at that gm plant. mitt romney with the silver spoon, is the guy making the tiet more relatable to the blue-collar workers? there may be a little bit of an impact on that but overall we haven t seen paul ryan move the numbers a lot yet. we ll see how that place out the next couple months. part of the reason it is happening now we re getting closer to the election. people are starting to have to make a decision. also the president s comments, the president has been very clear that he does prefer a more government-centric view of the way the economy works. that doesn t play very well with these workers. governor romney leads this election by 20 points among entrepreneurs.
about was closed under george w. bush. good afternoon, i m here with this update for tuesday june 3rd. rising gas prices and a sluggish economy forcing the hand at general motors. the decision to close janesville s gm plant. so we re in double digits now. ten lies in a week. what do you think? can we make it 11? you had asked for stimulus money for your district. is that accurate? i don t recall. i haven t seen this report so i can t comment on it. getting tired yet? i never asked for stimulus money. this isn t just a lie. this is the height of hypocrisy. listen to paul ryan talking ability his stimulus vote in 2010. i assume you voted against the stimulus, and i m just curious if you accepted any money in your district. no, i m not one who vote for people and then writes to the government to ask them to send
years. meanwhile, the romney/ryan plan would end medicare as we know it. okay. if you re scoring, we re up to eight. and it s not just mitt romney who is lying. do you think the obama bailout of the auto industry was a good idea sitting here today? didn t help janesville. it didn t help kenosha. shut down the chrysler plant. really? even though paul ryan voted for the automobile loan? what i voted for was to prevent a worse bailout. this din dishonesty count as a lie and so does this. i live in janesville, wisconsin. we use today have a big general motors plant. a lot of my high school buddies worked at that gm plant. that plant was shut down in 2009. i remember president obama when he was first running saying he would keep the plant open. one more broken promise. now, here s the problem with this lie. the factory ryan is talking
worked at that gm plant. that was shut down in 2009. i remember president obama visiting it when he was first running saying he ll keep that plant open. one more broken promise. only problem with that, it closed in 2008 before president obama was president and he was the congressman. and george bush was the president. let s step back and marvel at how ridiculous it is he is to go around the country saying the president didn t do enough to bail out the auto industry. if they ever get in the white house, the west wing will be flip-flopping all over. it s not going to happen. chris hayes, crystal ball, thanks for joining me tonight. enjoy your weekend. thank you. catch up with chris hayes saturdays and sundays at 8:00 a.m. eastern. and crystal on the cycle here on msnbc. coming up, the obama team
