The killing of Nevaeh Ager was devastating for residents of Little Waihi, some of whom tried to warn authorities.
Oranga Tamariki was informed that Nevaeh Ager was living in a drug house with a “nutter” father who was using meth, but told the caller there wasn’t enough evidence to act. A month later, Nevaeh was dead. Tony Wall reports. A month before she was murdered by her drug-crazed father, child protection services were told Nevaeh Ager, 2, was living in a suspected drug house, was rarely seen outside and her father was acting bizarrely. But Oranga Tamariki failed to act on the call from a worried neighbour, telling her to call police if “anything concerning or dangerous happens”.
