KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Wednesday, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) provided an update into the police enforcement of expired licenses and plates for area drivers under the COVID-19 pandemic. In a Twitter post, Officer Glyn Hawkins explained the update to residents. Hawkins reminded residents that there was a freeze on the requirement of up-to-date licenses and plates under state orders, but those orders have since expired. “The freeze ended March 31,” Hawkins said. “At KDPS, we began enforcing the state license plates and valid driver’s license requirements immediately. That means anyone with a driver’s license or license plate that expired after March 1, 2020, must resolve the issue to avoid getting a ticket.”
