The Houston Texans will be on the 2021 NFL Draft clock two weeks from today (Friday April 16th, 2021). It ll be tough to see the Texans have to wait until pick No. 67 but then it s on like Donkey Kong. Eight picks over the next 166 picks and that rookie group will go down in history as new General Manager Nick Caserio s inaugural draft class.
People have asked me or tried to put me on the spot about the lack of a first or second round pick. My response has always been The best quarterback to ever play this game was drafted at No. 199 in the sixth round. Whereas future Hall of Famer Tom Brady is the exception to the rule, rounds three through seven, and beyond, can provide ample value for any football team, including this organization. Third round picks and beyond have made significant contributions to the Texans roster over the years such that you can fill out an entire offense/defense/special teams roster of those round three and beyond picks. Growing up, we sports fans all rooted for our certain teams, and unless you rooted for the equivalent of the modern day New England Patriots or Alabama Crimson Tide, you rarely had your hearts ripped from your chest on a regular basis. Me, I didn t root for these teams, so I knew what loss felt like, watching my beloved Hartford Whalers routinely fall short against in gut wrenching fashion to the Montreal Canadiens, or my Philadelphia 76ers get done in by Larry Bird for most of the 80s.
I didn t grow up in Houston, but I got here in 1994, as a young adult, and immediately took to the local teams. I didn t experience the heartbreak of the Oilers Luv Ya Blue era, or the Astros postseason failures in the 80s, but I heard the stories, and inherited our teams histories and cultures unconditionally. I say all that to say that I know there are young Houston children who are experiencing the Houston Texans right now, and they view the Indianapolis Colts the same way I did the Canadie

ALLEN PARK Bob Quinn’s draft record was spotty enough to get him fired. But his work in the first round was always pretty good, and now two of those guys have been named Pro Bowlers less than a month after his firing.
Tight end T.J. Hockenson and center Frank Ragnow were both named to the NFC team on Monday night, along with punter Jack Fox. This is the first time Detroit has produced at least three Pro Bowlers in the same season since 2014, when Ndamukong Suh, Matthew Stafford, Golden Tate, Glover Quin and Calvin Johnson all made it. Stafford, an alternate, was named the MVP of that game.

In 2014, when the Lions went 11-5 and had one of the best defenses in the NFL, they had five Pro Bowl selections: Calvin Johnson, Glover Quin, Matthew Stafford, Ndamukong Suh and Golden Tate.
He left the Lions with a major rebuild to do on defense, but took three Pro Bowlers in his five drafts Ragnow, Hockenson and receiver Kenny Golladay, who went as an alternate after leading the NFL in touchdown catches last season and signed Fox late last season as a street free agent.
Golladay has missed most of this season with a hip injury, which helped open the door for Hockenson s breakout campaign.
