Metropolitan Explores Water Market During Critically Dry Year

To ensure Southern California has reliable water as the state faces a second consecutive year of drought, Metropolitan Water District’s Board of Directors voted today to explore purchasing supplies on the water market.
While Metropolitan has enough water from its diverse sources and in storage to serve the region’s needs, even during this critically dry year, purchasing transfer supplies will help the agency strategically manage future risk. The purchases will particularly increase reliability in areas of Metropolitan’s service area that rely more heavily on water from the State Water Project.

The West Basin Municipal Water District board of directors elected Harold C. Williams, P.E., MSCE to serve as president during its annual board re-organization and meeting in January.
As president, Williams will facilitate the appointment of committees and assignment of representatives to affiliate organizations, and shall have the primary responsibility for interpreting the policies, programs and needs of the District to the public.
“I’m honored to serve as Board President, to help advance our District goals and mission to provide a safe, reliable supply of drinking water to our communities, especially during these challenging times,” said Williams. “I’m hopeful that in the year ahead we’ll focus on the essential work of advancing critical projects and planning West Basin’s path forward.”

CULVER CITY, CA West Basin Municipal Water District announced its 2021 Water Is Life art contest is now open for Culver City student submissions.
The annual art contest from West Basin recognizes student creativity and innovation throughout its service area. Student artists help inspire their communities to support water conservation as a way of life by creating thought-provoking water-smart pieces of art. Submissions are due via regular mail or email by March 19. We encourage 3rd-12th grade students in our local schools to participate in this year s West Basin art contest, West Basin Board President Gloria D. Gray said in a news release. Last year, we received about 500 creative entries from students, and we hope to see those numbers go up this year with the added flexibility to submit artwork electronically or through the mail.
