ORMOND BEACH Just before 9:30 a.m. on a windy Good Friday, 60-year-old Angela Petriello pushed a supermarket cart across the street from the Jerry Doliner Food Bank and shoved several boxes of donated groceries into the backseat of her car.
She had enough to feed herself and her two granddaughters for more than a week, but one special treat she had scored at the food bank brought her to tears. She had found a chocolate birthday cake for her granddaughter Gracie, who turned 10 on Good Friday. It s overwhelming to me, said Petriello, who lives in Daytona Beach with her granddaughters. There s our dinner and our birthday cake to boot. You can t beat that. It s a beautiful thing.

Unified Hope Movement to host call to prayer
The Unified Hope Movement will host a call to prayer at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at Veterans Memorial Park, Flagler Beach.
The Unified Hope Movement began in May 2020 out of the pain and uncertainty of the human condition. This small group of women answered the call to work to unify our Flagler communities by using prayer as a tool to change circumstances and return our confidence in mankind.
Pastors, laypersons and community leaders have answered the call to pray with us on Jan. 23. This event on Jan. 23 will be our fourth effort in the race to move away from strife and catapult us into peace and harmony. For information, call 732-646-0002.
