The Malta Town Board is considering a zoning amendment that would allow for the construction of 3.5 million square feet of “last-mile” warehouse/distribution space in the Luther Forest Technology Campus very near GlobalFoundries Fab 8. The proposal should be rejected.

MALTA Plans for a massive warehouse complex at the Luther Forest Technology Campus are facing some opposition, including possibly from the industrial park’s only major tenant, the GlobalFoundries Fab 8 computer chip plant.
The Town Board voted 3-2 on Monday to approve the scope for an environmental impact statement to be done by Scannell Properties of Indianapolis, a national commercial real estate developer whose other projects include the million-square-foot Amazon distribution center in Rensselaer County.
Scannell is proposing up to five major warehouse buildings at the technology campus, with a possible square footage of up to 3.5 million square feet, and a potential for creating 2,500 new jobs.

MALTA The GlobalFoundries-Town of Malta Foundation on Wednesday awarded $142,964 in 31 different grants to benefit community organizations that serve Malta residents and the school districts that serve the town.
While the largest single grant was $16,500 to the Malta-Stillwater Emergency Medical Service for purchase of a ventilator to be available in ambulances, both the Ballston Spa and Shenedehowa school districts each received multiple grants to support STEM learning, robotics and general education programs.
The grants, which were announced during a virtual presentation held Wednesday, are in addition to a $50,000 grant provided in March to help the town of Malta to provide local individuals and families with grocery store gift cards, as the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic first began to emerge.
