WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE AND WHO IS INVOLVED?
PYXERA Global is partnering with NYCEDC, New York City’s primary entity for promoting and implementing economic development initiatives. Spanning industries and communities, NYCEDC’s projects have a common goal to build strong neighborhoods, create good-paying jobs, and ensure the city’s economy is dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable. NYCEDC also manages a variety of assets across the 5 boroughs. The solutions created through the Challenge will serve as a test case and will be lifted up by NYCEDC, PYXERA Global, and participating corporations for use in cities across the United States.

Business leaders carry the power and responsibility to champion societal change. According to the 2021 Edelman Trust Barometer Report, COVID-19 “accelerated the erosion of trust around the world” except for trust in business. In fact, the general population views the private sector as more trusted, ethical, and competent than NGOs, the government, and the media. Corporate leaders have been and will increasingly continue to be looked to for leadership in addressing the world’s most pressing problems, including but not limited to climate change, racism, healthcare, and economic inequality.
COVID-19 demonstrated the gross inequality present in public healthcare, while the murder of George Floyd opened a wider dialogue on systemic racism and historical injustices.
