Following Mike Colwell’s retirement at the end of February as executive director of entrepreneurial initiatives at the Greater Des Moines Partnership, he’ll lead one more session of the Partnership’s Raising Capital Seminar Series in March, a twice-yearly power course for entrepreneurs learning how to fund their business.
Colwell, himself a private investor, is preparing to enjoy a “semiretired” life with his wife in Colorado but plans to continue supporting Central Iowa startups as a mentor the root of his work over the years. For this spring’s seminar course, entrepreneurs will benefit knowing COVID-19 opened a whole new set of virtual doors, he said.

Iowa AgriTech Accelerator announces dissolution Friday, January 15, 2021 3:29 PM Five years after launch, the Iowa AgriTech Accelerator is dissolving, Executive Director Nadilia Gomez announced in a statement sent to the Business Record this afternoon.
The governing board cited the emergence of new, regional entrepreneurial support resources that have been established since the Iowa AgriTech Accelerator was formed by the Greater Des Moines Partnership and Cultivation Corridor. The accelerator welcomed its first cohort in 2017 and was based in the East Village next to the Global Insurance Accelerator, which the Iowa AgriTech Accelerator was modeled on.

DES MOINES, Iowa, Jan. 06, 2021 The Global Insurance Accelerator (GIA), a Des Moines, Iowa-based business accelerator focused on fostering innovation in the insurance industry, is pleased to announce the seventh cohort will launch on January 19 with seven InsurTech companies virtually joining the accelerator’s annual 100-day program.
Traditionally conducted in Des Moines, Iowa, the GIA went virtual with six weeks to go in the 2020 program, creating a unique, yet still immersive, experience for the 2020 cohort.
