The Auld Lammas Fair likely to be cancelled for second year Lammas Fair 16 March, 2021 09:25
The Auld Lammas Fair, Ireland’s oldest fair, looks likely to be cancelled for the second year in succession.
The fair had been held in Ballycastle without interruption for nearly four centuries until last year when it fell victim to a raft of event cancellations following the onset of the pandemic.
The Auld Lammas Fair is traditionally held every year on the last Monday and Tuesday of August and would normally see thousands lining the streets of the seaside town of Ballycastle.
Members of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Leisure & Development committee will be told tonight (Tuesday, March 16) that due to the ‘unpredictable course of the pandemic’ it remains too challenging to even begin preparations for the world famous festival which can take up to eight months to plan in advance.
