AREA Marshall County residents came out to show their appreciation and respect for soldiers who died in the line of service at local Memorial Day ceremonies
March 4, 1886: The Comet reported, âCol. S.H. Yocum moved last Monday to the residence recently purchased from Capt. S.T. Harris. Capt. Harris will move to Knoxville in a short time.â
March 4, 1892: âJudge Hart and Col. Chase made a flying trip to Jonesboro yesterday,â according to The Comet.
The newspaper also reported, âRev. T.B. Russell returned yesterday from a trip down the road.â
Jonesboro was spelled that way at the time.
March 4, 1899: The Knoxville Sentinel reported news from Upper East Tennessee. With a dateline of Johnson City, readers noted, âThe Embreeville furnace is again in blast, after being blamed for a few days during the extreme cold weather last week.â
