A Safeway employee who previously served in the U.S. Army for two decades attacked a gunman in the produce section of the Bend, Oregon, supermarket, possibly preventing more casualties from a shooting that left the employee and one other person dead.
Bend police held a press conference Monday afternoon about the Sunday shooting at a shopping center that left three people dead, including the alleged shooter.
U.S. Army veteran Donald Ray Surrett Jr. served his country for 20 years and never saw combat, only to die in the produce aisle of a grocery store as he tried to stop a gunman who was strafing Safeway with an assault rifle.
