The University of Southern Maine received a $5 million gift on Tuesday to build a new Center for the Arts on the University s Portland campus.
The gift comes from the Crewe Foundation, an organization named after prolific singer/songwriter Bob Crewe, whose music propelled Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons to fame. The Foundation provides support in the fields of fine arts and music by empowering aspiring artists and underserved youth to pursue, develop and realize their talents and goals.

University of Southern Maine officials say a new dorm to be constructed on the school s Portland campus will be one of the largest to reach green building standards.
The university has recently started construction on the new dorm, its first on its Portland campus, as well as a new student and career center. The projects are scheduled to be completed in about two years and were funded with state bonds.
Student Raul Gierbolini says Portland offers a lot of opportunities for internships and connections, but housing in the city has always been in short supply for students.

Westbrook, Maine, May 18, 2021 Sodexo, a global food service provider and one of Maine’s largest employers, today announced that it will source as much as 80-percent of its lettuce products from Vertical Harvest Maine, the State’s newest hydroponic urban farm, and the first vertical greenhouse in the United States. The produce will be served at all fourteen Sodexo partners, including collegiate campuses from Fort Kent to South Portland. Earlier this year, Sodexo pledged to spend at least $1M at local Maine farms and food producers in 2021.
