Pitching in the World Baseball Classic gave Orioles prospect Ryan Long, now at Double-A Bowie, perspective on what pitching in a major league game would be like, and he proved to himself that he could succeed at that level.
As he makes his way through his first full professional season, Orioles infield prospect Carter Young is looking to become a more consistent hitter and raise his on-base percentage. "We're doing some things that are very drastic, and I actually like it a lot," Young said.
Drafted by the Orioles in the ninth round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Connor Gillispie has pitched out of the bullpen and as a starter for the Baysox this season. "I've definitely learned a lot this year," Gillispie said.
Although he initially struggled with giving up his role as a starter, Cole Irvin is embracing his new role in the Orioles' bullpen. "We play the game to win a World Series . " Irvin said. "Anything that this team needs, I want to be doing everything I can to help it."
