Travellers leave Borehamwood park after large police operation

This was police officers pictured in Aberford Park in Borehamwood on Tuesday - and there was an even larger presence today. Credit: Cllr Glenn Briski Police officers from across Hertfordshire were drafted in to help move on a large group of travellers from a park in Borehamwood. Hertfordshire Constabulary says it became necessary for officers to take additional enforcement action to tackle the encampment at Aberford Park. The group initially arrived at the park on Tuesday afternoon - at least a dozen caravans were spotted scattered across the grass by the skate park. Hertsmere Borough Council confirmed it had begun legal action to force the travellers on but the court process was fast-tracked and the entire group have now left the park and been escorted out of Borehamwood.

Traveller injunction in Hertsmere withdrawn

There is a traveller encampment at Aberford Park in Borehamwood An injunction which allowed council officers to move on travellers without having to go through the courts is no longer in place. Hertsmere Borough Council introduced the instant ban at more than 100 public sites in 2019, after dealing with several encampments the year before. The injunction has meant the council has avoided having to go through the lengthy and often costly process of moving travellers on from parks and other open spaces in Bushey and Radlett, via the courts. However the council says this injunction is not currently in force after legal action was brought against it.
