Trade generics are branded medicines that are not promoted to physicians but are directly sold through retailers and distributors. In India, trade generics have a market share of 20% by volume and 5-6% by value, according to data and analytics firm IQVIA. The segment is growing around 14-15% per annum.
The company, spun off from Glenmark Pharmaceuticals in 2019 to focus on the API business, said total revenue from operations climbed 18% to 5.87 billion rupees during the quarter, with regulated markets including the U.S., Europe and India contributing 78%.
Nirma, known for its eponymous washing detergent brand, have entered the final round of bidding for a stake of about 83% in the Mumbai-listed company held by Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Ltd which has a portfolio of 139 molecules and supplies its products to customers in India and abroad including Europe and North America. The company has four plants in India.
Lupin s peer Glenmark Pharma had undergone a similar exercise in May 2019, when the latter spun off its API business into a new entity called Glenmark Life Sciences, which made its public market debut in August 2021
