This is the big picture, an official television report of the United States army, produced for the armed forces and the American People. Now, to show you part of the big picture, here is Master Sergeant stewart quaid. In the fall of 1907, the United States army purchased from two bicycle mechanics named wright the First Military plane. Guaranteed to remain aloft for one hour, it carried two persons. At an airspeed of 40 miles per hour, it was light enough to be transported in an army wagon. 50 years have passed. The miracle of flight has become a commonplace reality. There seems to be no limit to aviation progress. This is the armys tribute to the pilots, the mechanics, the engineers, and the countless others who have given wings to mans dreams. This is the age of flight. The airy. Today, air power is a dominant factor in the American Defense program. Far out from all four corners of the United States, navy and air force radar planes are spreading an aerial umbrella across the sky. Car

And where ever you are during this week with the forecast on the week, the weather app is free. Breaking news. Hikers had to be rescued after getting trapped on a ledge. Reporter well, dick, the hikers were stuck for almost three hours after the fire chief said they went climbing off trail and then couldnt get down from the rocks. Chopper 2 was over the scene as the rescue operation was happening. The Fire Department deployed the High Angle Rescue Team and lowered a fireman down to two women stuck about 250 feet off the ground. A man who was with those two women had climbed down by himself earlier and was able to go make the call for help. We were there when the second woman was helped down to safety. But the fire chief says the group cou
Of minor crimes like speeding as we point out in our brief, dui, littering, all kinds of minor crimes the person can make a fairly convincing argument sometimes that evidence on the phone would be relevant to that crime of arrest. I think that brings me where i want to end, understanding what the rule the government profounds would do in terms of just ordinary police work. Remember this case starts with a traffic stop for expired license plate. It is Everyday Police work that traffic stops are the beginning of criminal investigations and a leverage point into searches. If you adopt the rule at that says, even a gant rule that says, if you can making a argument that evidence on the phone would be relevant to the crime of arrest, take the suspended license, you may have an email from the dm vteling you better come in to renew. If that opens up every americans entire life to the police department, not just at the scene, but later at station house and downloaded into their computer forever
Who writes his memoir 40 years after the fact, writes it in a flowery 19th century flowery style. When wallace says they arrived here in the morning and lit their camp fires, hell Say Something like, you know, the ste ste steely ska gave way to the orange sun and which was great. You have to balance what wallace says in his memoir with his telegrams from the battlefield. His after reaction report two weeks later because wallace had a way of making himself sound really good. And, you know, he did a very brave thing here. Cant get away from that. And as i say in the book, i believe and i think the judgment of history is that what wallace did here did safe washington, d. C. So this battle took place on july 9th, 1864 and right now its november 2nd, 2007. Its a beautiful day. But one thing to keep in mind about this battle is it was very, very hot. They didnt have thermometers, at least no one referred to a thermometer in their memoirs, but it had to have been in the upper 90s and very, ve
Are spending much time at all training for the crater. I think it gets back to how we tend to want to remember this story. The story of the black Union Soldier is front and center. I couldnt be happier about that. I think theres been a danger in the way the story has been pushed over the last few years. It is the moral narrative of our civil war memory. We want to correct for forgetting about them for so long. I think we tend to gloss over some of the darker sides of black soldiers. I dont think were comfortable talking about black soldiers massacrering others. That doesnt fit into our minds right now. I think we want to believe if those black regiments had been allowed to lead the assault that would have been it. We can imagine black soldiers charging over brandfield hill into petersberg. Thats a very soothing image. Anyone who has studied civil war battles, theres nothing that goes as planned. Is there any surprise given this massive detonation. No one can really predict what it will
