A teenager was left with a gaping slash wound on his face after one of his best friends smashed him in the face with a beer glass in an unprovoked attack.
Kāpiti Island Eco was one of two ferrying services for visitors to Kāpiti Island. Owner Glen Cooper said his company had not been consulted since they made a submission against the proposal in May 2020. “We’ve heard nothing from the project team since last year. For all the assumptions they have made about visitor numbers they haven’t asked us a single question,” Cooper said.

You can’t. The weather, the tides and the demand isn’t there. Particularly in the winter or weekdays,” Hunter said. Hunter spearheaded a petition against the centre that attracted more than 3000 signatures. She said it had been ignored by the council and the community consultation regarding plans had been disingenuous. A particular bone of contention was the inclusion of a cafe and bar.
