A new book co-inciding with the centenary of the Drishanebeg Train Ambush, entitled Worth the Wait is available this weekend recalling the daring deeds of Millstreet Volunteers who carried out a planned operation against Crown forces travelling by train between Mallow and Killarney in early 1921.
The Drishanebeg Train Ambush Commemoration Project Committee was established to remember the events on February 11 at the Glebe Railway Cutting. PRO Michael Thornton related how the event was deemed one of the more successful engagements undertaken by the Millstreet Battalion during the War of Independence with the arms captured proving to be of immense help for later engagements at Clonbanin and Rathcoole.
