The Guatemalan revealed that out of 8 million doses that have been ordered due to the still-rising coronavirus cases in the country but Guatemala so far only received 150,000 doses.

The government of President Alejandro Giammattei paid some $80 million in early April for a supply of 8 million doses of the vaccine. So far, it has received just 150,000 of those, the government said, while COVID-19 infections in the Central American country have risen to a peak.

- 17:53 horas Guatemala anunció el martes que solicitará a Rusia la devolución del dinero desembolsado por la compra de ocho millones de dosis de la vacuna Sputnik V contra el COVID-19 adquiridas hace casi tres meses y de las que solo ha recibido 150,000 unidades. El 5 de abril Guatemala hizo el pago a una subsidiaria del Fondo de Inversión Directo de Rusia (RDIF, por sus siglas en inglés) de 79.6 millones de dólares por el lote de vacunas. No quedó inmediatamente clara la cantidad de dinero que estaba solicitando el gobierno del presidente Alejandro Giammattei. Estamos pidiendo, de acuerdo a su ofrecimiento, la devolución del dinero y si en algún momento ellos tienen capacidad de venta, poder trabajar contra entrega”, dijo la ministra de Salud del país centroamericano, Amelia Flores, en una comparecencia ante el Congreso.
