Kate Middleton and Prince William made their first official visit to the Scottish island of Orkney on Tuesday.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge started their activities by opening the new Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall. The royal couple also met with the local National Health Service staff and heard their experiences over the past year, prior to the hospital’s formal opening.

The Duchess of Cambridge joined her husband in Scotland on Monday, with a visit to Turning Point Scotland in North Lanarkshire, where they spoke to those supported by the social care services organisation.
During their visit, William and Kate heard more about the programmes offered by Turning Point Scotland through its Turnaround programme, which offers support to “address the complex and interrelated issues of offending behaviours and problematic use of alcohol and other drugs, which often result in patters of re-offending,” per the organisation’s website.
Turning Point Scotland was founded in 1999 and supports the most vulnerable in society, whether they’re dealing with homelessness, addiction, or mental health issues “to halt these cycles and address fundamental issues in order to ensure that those they support are able to live mentally healthy and happy lives.”

The Duchess of Cambridge showcased her signature flair for diplomatic dressing as she joined husband Prince William for the second leg of his Scottish royal tour.
Kate, 39, sported a £59.99 Zara blazer and pleated midi skirt by Hope Fashion in the colour of the Scottish flag for a visit to Turning Point Scotland, a social care charity in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. The couple learned about the support the organisation provides to those facing homelessness, mental health issues and substance abuse.
The visit is part of a royal charm offensive to help persuade Scotland to resist the demands of nationalists for independence.
