Gladstone Ports Corporation has been announced as a finalist for an international competition thanks to its community parklands project.
GPC is now in with a huge chance of winning an International Association of Ports and Harbours (IAPH) Sustainability Award for the first time.
About 37 ports from 21 countries across the globe submitted entries for the 2021 World Ports Sustainability Awards this year.
A judging panel of international experts whittled down the selection of 200 entries to three finalists for each category, including GPC that is now in the top three for the Community Outreach and Port City Dialogue Social Dimension category.
Executive general manager for people and community, Rowen Winsor said GPC strived to be a leader in Port sustainability.

Gladstone’s jewel in its industrial crown will celebrate a significant milestone this weekend, as it surpasses 107 years in operation.
The Gladstone Harbour Board, now the Gladstone Ports Corporation, first met in 1914 and since then it has grown into Australia’s premier-multi commodity port and the gateway for Australian jobs, trade and prosperity for the community and state.
Acting CEO Craig Walker said GPC was steeped in history and part of Central Queensland’s DNA. Acting Secretary KJ Lee, WR Golding Operator AG Greasley and and WH Turner at Auckland Point in 1964.
“The Port’s shipping history stretches back to the 1880s when live horse exports were handled at the then timber Auckland Point Jetty,” Mr Walker said.

Gladstone Port’s Corporation’s Marina Parklands will host the Summer Holiday tour, which will be held from 8am until 12pm.
CQ Cricket manager Kade Horan said GPC’s waterfront location had so much to offer.
“We want to promote that cricket is no longer just played at traditional cricket grounds but can be played anywhere and the Marina Parklands represent the ideal location for us,” Mr Horan said.
