Premium Content Subscriber only A cyclone predicted to form off Cairns in the coming days will begin to impact the Central Queensland region from Wednesday or Thursday, says the Bureau of Meteorology. Meteorologist Matt Marshall said the tropical low, which was on Sunday sitting about 240km east of Cairns, would be called tropical cyclone Niran. “We have issued the first tropical cyclone advice and also a tracking map for what is currently a tropical low,” he said. “It is forecast to develop into a tropical cyclone in the coming days. The Bureau of Meteorology have released a Tropical Cyclone tracking map at 11.30am Sunday.

Man airlifted to hospital after fall from horse

Premium Content Subscriber only A man in his 50s has been airlifted to Rockhampton Hospital after he fell from his horse while mustering cattle at Gindoran, west of Lowmead. The RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service was alerted to the incident by Queensland Health about 8.33pm on Saturday. Rescue 300 conducted a low reconnaissance of the area and found a suitable landing site near to the patient, a RACQ Capricorn Helicopter Rescue spokeswoman said. The patient was initially treated by Queensland Ambulance Service for a suspected broken shoulder and spinal injuries. Once on scene, the on-board flight doctor and critical care paramedic further assessed and stabilised the patient prior to being loaded onto the helicopter for the flight to Rockhampton Base Hospital.

First home buyers accessing super to rise CQ property prices

These are Industry Super Australia’s ISA thoughts on a push by Victorian federal coalition backbencher Tim Wilson and other MPs for the scheme to be legislated. An analysis by ISA found median property prices in capital cities could jump by between 8 and 16 per cent, if first home buyers were allowed to access $40,000 from superannuation. The news comes on the back of statistics showing the property market hit a record high in January, with banks predicting double-digit growth this year.

Man taken to hospital after quad bike crash

Premium Content Subscriber only A man has been taken to hospital following a quad-bike crash at Round Hill, near Agnes Water, in which he reportedly suffered a laceration to his hand. A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics responded to a private residence at Round Hill, after reports of a quad bike incident. “A male in his 20s sustained a hand injury in a quad bike incident at a private property at 2.35pm,” the spokeswoman said. “Paramedics transported him to Bundaberg Hospital in a stable condition.” In a response to the 128 deaths involving quad bikes between January 2011 and December 2018, the Federal Government introduced new laws surrounding the vehicles last year.

After a couple of years of it, I thought what happens if I start getting really good, so I started working with a comedian and a speech writer, he said.
