Paint the Town Purple this Friday for Cancer Council

Everyone is encouraged to wear purple to work on Friday, May 7, to support people affected by cancer, in conjunction with Relay for Life 2021. The colour purple, which represents all types of cancers, has been adopted as the primary colour for Relay for Life. Workplaces can get involved in painting the town purple in a variety of ways to support the cancer council. Show your support by decorating your workplace purple to support Relay for Life, have a purple morning tea in your purple decorated lunch room, create a purple menu item, change your email signature to purple, or display Relay for Life posters and collection boxes.

Stronger Communities Gladstone share in $2 5m DV funding

Premium Content Subscriber only Preventing domestic violence in the Gladstone region has been given a boost, with Stronger Communities sharing in part of $2.5m to help address the escalating problem. The partnership funding between state and federal governments aims to help domestic, family and sexual violence service providers respond to the complexities and challenges resulting from COVID-19. Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said $56,387 would help Stronger Communities Ltd provide a vital service helping families in the region with domestic and family violence. “It is fantastic to see the Stronger Communities Ltd as one of the successful recipients as they assist victims of domestic and family violence and support them in the safest and most appropriate way for their individual needs,” Mr Butcher said.

Vital community service gets funding boost

The funding for the Gladstone Neighbourhood Centre means it can continue to deliver vital services to the community. Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the centre was a cornerstone of the local community. “It provides services and support to some of our most vulnerable residents,” Mr Butcher said. “We are pleased that the Gladstone Regional Council will continue as the operator of the neighbourhood centre, working in conjunction with other service providers and local support services to deliver vital community and social supports to local people.

Gladstone hydrogen hub in $539 2m national renewables plan

Premium Content Subscriber only Gladstone’s push to be at the pinnacle of the global renewable hydrogen industry continues to solidify with news the city will be one of five ‘hubs’ in the Federal Government’s $539.2 million clean hydrogen and carbon capture technologies program. The port city’s skilled workforce, port and gas infrastructure, proximity to energy resources and large scale industrial demand factors resulted in Gladstone being listed as a ‘highly prospective’ hub location. The announcement follows the progressive development of Hydrogen Park Gladstone and the March agreement between Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation, and multiple local and national partners, to develop the world’s first hydrogen ecosystem at Gladstone.
