jeff sessions will announce the president s decision to gradually phase out daca, leaving six months for congress to take action before he terminates it. daca is president obama s executive action protecting 800,000 so-called dreamers from deportation. dreamers were brought to the united states illegally by parents. it is an emotionally charged issue and already triggering protests. it is not new, also. congress has debated what to do about dreamers for 16 years. it is another issue dividing the republican party then and now. what s also not new is a president looking to congress to come up with a permanent solution. watch this. it s not a permanent fix. this is a temporary stopgap measure that lets us focus resources wisely giving a debris of relief and hope to talented, driven, patriotic young people,
the president made clear what he is going to do. he said it s on you guys. time for congress to act on daca. you say? i say it s time for congress to do its job. we have to have a bipartisan bill that not only can pass the house, but house and senate, working together to solve this problem once and for all. the current executive order doesn t work. it doesn t include a pathway to citizenship, serve in armed forces. we need a congressional fix to this that solves the problem once and for all. why do you think congress can come up with a fix in six months when, a congress has been unable to repeal and replace obamacare and more importantly, the fact in 2010, when the dreamer act was brought forth and democrats controlled the house and senate, it failed to get enough votes to pass both chambers. why is this time different with more republicans in congress?
i think it has to be bipartisan. it may get included in another bill. border funding was a bipartisan bill that senator obama, senator schumer and clinton voted for. because you are talking about something different. you are talking the 2006 fence act for 700 miles of fence along the border, which is different than what the president proposed and many republicans are proposing. to your state specifically, your constituents in california specifically, you know over a quarter of those daca youth that are living in the united states right now are in california. and you voppose it. why? i oppose ending it without a congressional fix. congress has to do their job. we can t wait for the attorney generals to sue on this or the supreme court to make a vote on
democrat, because it s popular to demonize these people, and that s what a lot of politicians in both parties have done. look, the president signed into law a statute which prevents him from transferring prisoners out of gitmo without giving congress notice and giving congress the opportunity to intervene. that is undoubtedly unconstitutional. prisoners are in the custody of the executive branch run by the president. civilian and military prisoners. he can move them from prison to prison and congress can t interfere. anything he wants regarding prisoners in any facility anywhere and to say otherwise is not true. correct. unconstitutional. it hasn t been challenged because nobody in a position to challenge it yet. see where it goes. hearing the same word a lot of years. yes, yes. like a broken record. maybe finally there will be action in the remains 16 months of ois term. a lot of people would be really mad in that happens. yes. report on it either way.
