RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA As coronavirus hospitalizations mount in Riverside County and intensive care unit beds are at zero capacity, unionized registered nurses and licensed medical professionals at three Southland hospitals including Riverside Community Hospital have called a 10-day unfair labor practice strike.
According to a statement Monday from the registered nurse union SEIU Local RN121, the workers plan to strike from December 24 through January 3 at Riverside Community Hospital in Riverside, Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks and West Hills Hospital & Medical Center in West Hills.

LOS ANGELES, CA Angelenos are being asked to avoid hospital emergency rooms as the surge of coronavirus patients overwhelm the region s hospital system. Patients with non-emergency needs should seek help from urgent care centers and similar clinics.
The dire situation comes on the same day COVID-19 vaccinations finally began in Los Angeles County. The conflux of events is a sign of hope on the horizon as well as a reminder that the vaccine can t stave off the current crisis. Los Angeles continued its dramatic surge in coronavirus cases and hospitalizations Monday, driving down the availability of intensive-care unit beds and pushing emergency rooms to capacity limits.

LOS ANGELES, CA Hospitals across Los Angeles will begin receiving and administering their first doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine Tuesday and Wednesday, the first step in an ambitious plan to inoculate six million Angelenos in six months.
A nurse received one of the state s first coronavirus vaccines Monday at a Kaiser Permanente facility in Hollywood, and authorities hope to repeat the process for thousands of medical care professionals at nine hospitals across the county this week. The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine poses a unique challenge because it must be stored in ultra-cold-storage facilities. Nine sites across the county equipped with the ultra-cold-storage facilities will farm out the vaccines

LOS ANGELES, CA District Attorney George Gascon may be facing resistance within his own office to his plans to dismiss gang and other allegations that lead to longer sentences.
A former Los Angeles County prosecutor who now represents the family of a man killed in a crash by a driver allegedly under the influence of nitrous oxide is fighting moves by Gascon to drop great bodily injury allegations in that case and at least one other.
