It was Christmas Eve, and 96-year-old Aline Harrison sat in her wheelchair, wet and filthy, in her room at The Village at St. Clair long-term care home.
There was spilled food on her shirt and pants and smeared across the tray attached to her wheelchair. Her pants were also soaked, and there was a puddle on the floor.

Her lunch, in a styrofoam container, was on a table several feet away. It was 2:30 p.m., and the container was untouched. Aline couldn’t reach it. The brakes on her wheelchair were locked so she couldn’t move.
