The Congress party has put forward the names of BJP functionary Girish Sonwalkar and Mrinal Hebbalkar, son of women and child welfare minister Laxmi Hebbalkar, as potential candidates for the Lok Sabha ticket from Belagavi. Sonwalkar, a professional in the medical field, hails from Mudalagi town and has settled in Belagavi. Despite his affiliation with the BJP, he shares a close relationship with public works minister Satish Jarkiholi and minister Laxmi Hebbalkar.
