Some Idaho child care providers will close Monday. They'll march to stay open long term

Some Idaho child care providers will close Monday. They’ll march to stay open long term Updated at Share This BOISE (Idaho Statesman) More than two dozen child care businesses in the Boise area will close their doors on Monday to allow staff to rally at the Idaho Capitol. Earlier this month, Gov. Brad Little recommended $99 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds from the federal government go toward supporting the state’s child care industry. The majority of that money is slated for a child care and development block grant ($26 million) and child care stabilization grants ($70 million). But those federal COVID-19 relief funds have not made their way past the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee.

Early childhood education leaders say misinformation in statehouse led to funding bill's death

Early childhood education leaders say misinformation in statehouse led to funding bill s death Idaho is only one of four states in the country to not provide any funding for any kind of pre-school education. Author: Brian Holmes Updated: 8:03 PM MST March 5, 2021 BOISE, Idaho Idaho House Bill 226 would have likely passed in any other session but it became a flashpoint within the statehouse when it failed 34-36 after one Republican representative made sexist remarks about mothers staying home and other Republicans expressing unfounded concerns of a social justice ideology being taught to children. With lawmakers claiming that the programs the grants would fund would be indoctrinating children, KTVB spoke with two early childhood education experts to find out exactly what the funding would do for Idaho s children.
