The pandemic has meant a torrid 12 months for food to go, and the sector is not yet out of the woods. According to the new Lumina Intelligence UK Food To Go Market Report 2021, food-to-go sales plummeted 45.5% last year, taking its market value down to £11.6bn.
Even with lockdown restrictions eased, and the vaccination rollout progressing at full steam, the market is expected to recover to only 72% of its 2019 value by the end of the year.
But the report also highlights growth opportunities for businesses that can adapt to a post-pandemic landscape and cater for new consumer habits that are here to stay.
