The Ministry of Finance said on Monday that Lithuania is to set up a Green Finance Institute for the smooth transition to a green economy, efficient use of renewable energy resources and to become a regional leader in the field of green finance.
President Gitanas Nausėda believes that the political crisis in Lithuania, which was caused by the municipal expenses scandal, may be solved either by a snap election or a Cabinet reshuffle.
President Gitanas Nausėda has stated that Minister of Finance Gintarė Skaistė and Minister of Culture Simonas Kairys should not be nominated to the new Government. Both of them are involved in the scandal over opaque spending of public funds on expenses when they used to be municipal councillors before joining the Cabinet after the 2020 parliamentary election.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis, leader of the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrat party (TS-LKD), supports Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė who vows to resign if parliament fails to declare a snap election. The TS-LKD presidium recommended to its party to initiate early parliamentary elections amid the expenses scandal involving numerous municipal councils including three ministers who used to serve as municipal councillors before joining the Cabinet in 2020.
Conservative leader Gabrielius Landsbergis says his party’s presidium is set to convene later Friday to consider Government’s resignation and early parliamentary elections in response to the ongoing expenses scandal involving several Cabinet members.
