A preliminary 3.8 magnitude earthquake was reported in Gilroy Sunday afternoon, according to the USGS.

Approximately 40 minutes after initial reports of the quake being a 3.9 magnitude, the USGS updated the quake s magnitude to 3.8.

A magnitude 3.7 earthquake struck near Gilroy on Sunday evening, apparently leaving no significant damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey detected the quake at 5:38 p.m. with an epicenter 5.6 miles northeast of Gilroy, and about 30.5 miles southeast of San Jose. The quake had a depth of about 3.7 miles, and was east of the Calaveras fault line.
Over the past week, there has been one other earthquake above magnitude 3.0 within 100 miles of this area, according to The Chronicle’s earthquake tracker.
South Bay residents reported feeling the tremor on social media. The USGS said the quake was felt in San Martin, Morgan Hill, Hollister and Salinas.
