Farmer s homes plan rejected );

AN unspoilt field between Henley and Harpsden where a developer wants to build 100 homes will not be earmarked in the latest draft of the parishes’ joint neighbourhood plan.
Henley Town Council, which is overseeing the revision of the housing blueprint, has declined to shortlist the eight-hectare plot at Lucy’s Farm, on Drawback Hill off Gillotts Lane, because it says more suitable sites are available.
When it invited landowners to submit proposals last autumn, Bloor Homes came forward with a plan for up to 100 units which it said could go in the centre of the field with planting around the edge to screen it from public view.

TWENTY mourners met outside Henley town hall on Tuesday to watch the funeral procession of a community stalwart.
Mary Aldred, of Luker Avenue, passed away at home on March 11, aged 90. The mother-of-two had lived locally for most of her life. She was part of a pressure group which successfully lobbied for the new Henley leisure centre, off Gillotts Lane, in the late Seventies.
Her funeral was held at Reading Crematorium on Tuesday with limited attendance due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The procession drove slowly past the town hall in Market Place where family, friends and Mayor Ken Arlett stood to pay their respects. Former mayor Gill Dodds also attended as she had presented Mrs Aldred with the town medal in 2009 for her work in the community. There was also a board displaying old photographs,

New housing on Hill intolerable );
);
A FORMER Mayor of Henley has called the prospect of homes being built on a green field “intolerable”.
Barry Wood is opposing plans by Bloor Homes for 100 properties on the upper half of Lucy’s Farm on Drawback Hill, behind the existing houses in Blandy Road.
It comes nine years after he launched a group called United!, which successfully campaigned against plans by the same developer for 130 homes on the land.
Mr Wood, who was then a town councillor, has spoken out again following the launch of a new campaign by three Henley residents against the latest application.
Cafe customers flood toilets
);
STAFF at a Henley café were baffled when two customers seemingly flooded the toilet on purpose.
The couple, who were in their mid-forties and smartly dressed, ordered their food and drink at Harris + Hoole in Duke Street and took it to a table without making any fuss.
Once they had finished eating, they both visited the toilet in turn before calmly putting their coats back on and leaving together.
Soon afterwards, a customer warned staff that the room had flooded so they went inside to find a sink had been blocked with toilet paper and a tap left running.
