Woman's grandmothers are her bridesmaids in coronavirus wedding

Gillian Holloway, 80, and Mary Kennedy, 90, traveled to London for the wedding, BBC reported.  A woman asked her two grandmothers to be her bridesmaids after coronavirus restrictions forced her and her fiance to cut their guest list to 15 people. (iStock) According to the network, it was the first time since March they had been able to leave home for anything properly social. Kennedy said that asking her grandmothers to be her bridesmaids was a way to help make the ceremony even better for them.  If they re going to come, we wanted to make it as special as we could for them, Megan said.

Grandmothers step in to walk bride down aisle as pandemic scuppers plans for seven bridesmaids

It s not every day you watch your new bride walked down the aisle by her two elderly grandmothers - but that s exactly what happened to one groom. Newtownards man Tom Cahoon had spent months planning his dream wedding to Megan Kennedy on March 28, 2020. But then, with just two weeks to go before the big day, Covid-19 struck. Tom (35) and Megan (34), who live in London, met on the Match.com dating website in the summer of 2017 and got engaged in late 2018. The pandemic forced the couple to make the difficult decision to postpone their wedding to October 3 last year. As the new date drew closer and more coronavirus restrictions came their way, they feared their nuptials would have to be put on hold a second time.

Something old: 'My nans were my bridesmaids'

Gran wedding for Ards man after pandemic upsets plans

I ruined all my walking down the aisle photographs, because I was just crying with relief. Both bridesmaids had been shielding since March and were only able to attend for a short time, while also staying well away from other guests. Megan admits that when she first told them of her plan, they both laughed, but soon got into the spirit of it. They thought it was ridiculous at first and that we should give their places to others, as our numbers were so limited, she said. When I explained how important it was to me to have them there by my side on the most important day of my life, they both agreed and then got so excited.
