HWL settles underpayment claim by former partner

HWL Ebsworth has paid a former partner almost $30,000 to settle her underpayments claim amid a heightened appetite among lawyers to push for their full entitlements.
Sian Gilbert, who left HWLâs workplace relations team in January, alleged that managing partner Juan Martinez short-changed her almost $30,000 in pay and benefits.
Sian Gilbertâs case came amid unprecedented focus on lawyersâ pay and underpayment claims following the introduction of new Fair Work rules.Â
She claimed this was in retaliation for her failure to support its failed IPO attempt last year, which was personally championed by Mr Martinez.
