“[Hyundai] realized there was this opportunity for a lifestyle vehicle that could take the place of a segment the pickup market essentially left. This is not a segment designed for pickup owners necessarily, it’s for lifestyle owners who we found want the versatility of a pickup but don’t want to deal with (poor) fuel economy, harshness, the size factor. The majority of these consumers are living in urban areas where a smaller footprint is significantly more valuable. “In reality, there are a lot of people, young and old, who don’t necessarily want the full capability of a pickup truck and all the baggage that comes with it. What we found is that there is a large segment of consumers who appreciate the versatility of their subcompact and compact CUVs. They appreciate the ride height, the comfort [from these car-based vehicles] and they appreciate the space and amenities [they provide].
