Weekly Auburn roundup: Joyce Kimeli declared a national champion Updated Mar 15, 2021; Auburn’s Joyce Kimeli brought home both a gold and a bronze medal from the National Indoor Championship, helping Auburn to a 10th place finish. The track and field team had the best week out of all the Auburn program, although the equestrian team beat a ranked team and the soccer team completed a “hat trick” of three wins against Georgia. Other teams dealt with some losses, although many suffered them against ranked teams. Here’s a summary of how Auburn’s teams did this week: 28 Auburn baseball: The Tigers started out the week with a close win over an in-state opponent, UAB.

Amid uproar from the public and elected officials, that plan was canceled.

That number was boosted by softball’s outstanding week, which featured five wins. The baseball team also contributed three, while the men’s and women’s tennis teams each added one. The No. 1 equestrian team remains undefeated to add another. Among the sports that don’t just count wins and losses, gymnastics posted a season-high road score; the men’s swimming team saw a number of lifetime bests at the SEC Championship; and the track team won numerous medals.

Marred by a deadly pandemic that has killed nearly 4,400 people in our state, this year saw too few glimpses of what we might remember as normal life. COVID-19 is 2020. At least that’s how most of us see it. It’s impacted literally every person on the planet, let alone Alabama. And it touched nearly every major story and image we captured. The pandemic compounded with the death of George Floyd that sparked nationwide protests and rallies for social justice during the summer gave us images we’ll never forget, even if we wish we could. In spite of it, life went on. Sports, graduations, restaurants, churches, elections and other aspects of our daily lives attempted to carry on.
