Jimi Manuwa Injured, Shogun Rua Meets Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Fight Night 56

A broken foot has forced British light heavyweight Jimi Manuwa out of the UFC Fight Night 56 main event against Mauricio “Shogun” Rua on Nov. 8 in Brazil. Stepping into the main event opposite Shogun will be Ovince Saint Preux. The American was originally slated to face Francimar Barroso in the night’s co-main event. UFC President Dana White announced the news on his Instagram page. The former UFC and Pride champion Rua will be looking to right the ship in his home country. The 32-year-old has dropped three of his last four inside the Octagon, including a violent, third-round TKO loss to Dan Henderson in March. The veteran has compiled a 6-7 record since joining the promotion, but all six wins have come via some form of knockout.

When he does so, Poland’s Michal Oleksiejczuk will face off against the Lithuanian fighter. Cageside Press confirmed the light heavyweight booking with a source close to the situation Monday, speaking on condition of anonymity as the UFC has not officially announced the bout. MMA Fighting was first to report the news.

Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a matchup between Modestas Bukauskas and Michal Oleksiejczuk is in the works for the UFC’s event on March 27. As of now, a location has yet to be revealed for the fight card, Bukauskas will look to get back on track after having his seven-fight winning streak snapped in his most recent appearance by Jimmy Crute in October. The former Cage Warriors champion signed to the UFC in the first quarter of 2020 after a successful title defense against Riccardo Nosiglia, finishing him in the first round at Cage Warriors 111 in November 2019. “The Baltic Gladiator” followed that up with a first-round TKO win over Andreas Michailidis in his octagon debut at UFC on ESPN 13 this past July.

Ian McCall Memorial Worst Luck Award Leon Edwards Let’s be clear, a lot of fighters had some awful luck in 2020. Heck, the vast majority of humanity had some pretty bad luck in 2020. So trying to figure out the recipient for this somewhat infamous award was a bit difficult, and there were plenty of viable choices but ultimately I landed on Leon Edwards. Coming into 2019 Edwards was a top contender in the very deep welterweight division, he was on a great eight fight winning streak that included wins over notable names like Vicente Luque, Donald Cerrone, and former lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.
