guess what, guys? mitt romney is back. he s just been added to the lineup of this year s annual conservative gathering joining luminaries like sarah palin, allen west, marco rubio and rick santorum. it s a list of old faces with tired, worn out lines and new faces with tired, worn out lines. and apparently mitch mcconnell got taken in by a constituent who believed an assertion that former gitmo detainees were now obtaining gi bill benefits. you know, guys, i got to be honest here, my appetite for gop
i m writing on behalf of a constituent who has contacted me regarding guantanamo bay prisoners receiving post-9/11 gi bill benefits. the constituent wrote to mcconnell about this disturbing information. after reading an article on the duffel blog. it turns out that duffel blog reports on all kinds of stuff, like syria hosting iraq war reenactors. in other words, it s satire, folks. and now mcconnell s office is defending its actions? they put out a statement saying senator mcconnell s office is hyper vigilant about finding answers to the questions raised by his constituents. how do you make that up, eric? that s a ridiculous statement from senator mcconnell s office. yes, senate offices, house office, they get a lot of request for information. but they do have the internet in those offices. they can the staff can google things, and they can look to see if they re true or not. i just can t imagine any senate
on the end of it, and then you use that to pillory folks and say, you know, what is your answer to this? you re not going to answer this? aren t you going to disclose this? we ve seen this throughout this hearing, this confirmation process with senator hagel. and it s actually delayed this confirmation for a month when we actually need, you know, senator hagel on the job as the secretary of defense. and so it s a very serious problem. it s not just a partisan issue. i mean, this is about the core integrity of the functioning of government. what does it mean for hagel, do you think, quickly? i think it means that hagel should be confirmed absolutely. this is over and they need a vote to confirm hagel as secretary of defense as soon as they come back into session. all right. wired magazine reports that senate minority leader mitch mcconnell asked the pentagon to get to the bottom of what he called a very troubling story. i m writing on behalf of a constituent who has contacted m
advertising than they do on education support staff. i mean are these schools just gaming the system? no doubt they re gaming the system. they come in and they recruit heavily and they get the money. the sad part is that let s say a gi signs up for one of the schools. the taxpayer money goes there. they get a bad education or they get a degree that s worthless and won t mean anything. and, yet, they can t get any more gi bill benefits. one time shop. that s it. the for-profit schools keep the money and they re home free. it s just egregious. the president of the association of private sector colleges and universities said that an industry task force is now being formed. it s kind of a self regulating body to investigate these allegations and develop new standards for educating veterans. do you that i this is just a few bad apples spoiling things for the whole bunch? what needs to happen here? to be sure, there are good
failed it, you can t get benefits for a year. you could face child abuse charges, as well. if this doesn t work, what s next for you? this is it. again, i m finishing my degree at the university of central florida. i m doing the best i can. is this probably the last avenue for any person who is without gainful employment to reach out for some assistance. and i served my country, i got my gi bill benefits and was never asked to take a test. thank you both for your time this afternoon. appreciate it. bobby bowden s ve dep revea long hidden secret.
