Parliament will be better off with the majority in opposition- Prof Gyampo

Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo A Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana Political Science department, Prof Ransford Gyampo has said that Ghana’s Parliament will be better off when the ruling government does not have the majority in the house. According to the Political Science lecturer, Parliament over the years has not been able to work effectively because the majority in the house always want to do the bidding of the Executive arm of government to remain in its good books. To him, having the opposition occupy the majority seats in Parliament will be a good test for the country’s multi-party democracy.

University of Ghana Political Science lecturer, Dr Kwesi Jonah The People’s National Convention (PNC) has demanded that University of Ghana Political Science lecturer, Dr Kwesi Jonah, substantiates a statement he made on Citi TV recently suggesting that the 1981 coup staged against the then-People’s National Party (PNP) and Dr Hilla Liman-led government by late Jerry John Rawlings was justifiable. A statement signed by the Party’s National Communications Secretary, Awudu Ishaq on 3 February 2021 also requests Dr Jonah to provide “the basis for the justification or issue an unqualified apology to the late former President Hilla Liman and the PNP government”.
