President Akufo-Addo on Thursday asked the Engineering Council of the Ministry of Works and Housing to conduct a comprehensive integrity audit of all public buildings to enable government to effectively plan for earthquakes and other natural disasters.
He has also urged the Ghana Geological Survey Authority to give government the needed advice on its logistical needs and equipment to undertake round the clock monitoring of seismic activities for urgent action.
The President made the call in Accra on Thursday when he opened a stakeholder conference on Ghana’s earthquake preparedness and response.
The meeting was organised by the Ministry of the Interior on the theme: “Building Resilience to Earthquakes – A National Priority.”

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo DankwaAkufo-Addo, has issued a number of directives to Ministries, Departments and Agencies in response to a report compiled by a committee of experts tasked to assess the country’s state of preparedness for the occurrence of earthquakes.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ conference organised by the Ministry of Interior, on Thursday, 8th April 2021, at Tang Palace, President Akufo-Addo noted that the series of earth tremors experienced by the country in recent times, coupled with the confirmation that Ghana is susceptible to earthquakes along the southern belt and the Akwapim-Togo range, resulted in the establishment of a Technical Committee to prepare “A Framework for Refocusing Ghana’s Earthquake Preparedness and Response”.
