George Russell thought he had got “the maximum” achievement possible with a Q2 appearance at the Monaco Grand Prix – the Williams team’s 750th F1 race.
We have come to fully expect seeing ‘Mr Saturday’ in the second part of qualifying and the next target for Russell is naturally to make it through to Q3 for the first time in a Williams.
He got especially close to doing so in Portugal two races ago, starting 11th, but on the Monte Carlo streets 15th was all the Briton could accomplish at a venue that exposed his car’s “weakness”.

George Russell was toying with the competition once again as he went from P15 to victory in the Virtual Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The Mercedes junior, driving the Williams FW43, took full advantage of a multi-car crash at the feature race start to swiftly improve to P3, and it was not long before the Briton was into the lead.
Despite early strategy fears Russell controlled the pace out front, keeping Enzo Fittipaldi firmly in his rear-view mirror, though P2 for Fittipaldi helped Haas on their way to taking the team’s title and $20,000 for the Grand Prix Trust.

George Russell is preparing for his third season in Formula 1, a year which will define his Mercedes and F1 future.
The Briton is a very curious case of statistics not painting the full picture, but the reality is he has been bogged down with a car not capable of scoring points under normal circumstances.
In some ways, his arrival in Formula 1 came at the wrong time.
A star of GP3 and Formula 2, winning those titles back-to-back, the Mercedes-managed driver was clearly ready for Formula 1 in 2019, but his signature with Williams on effectively a three-year loan deal coincided with the team’s slump to the back of the grid.
