Greater Mankato Area United Way is seeking volunteers to help with its Books for Kids program the week of March 8 through 12.
Volunteers are needed to label and stamp envelopes and assemble the mailers with Capstone books for nearly 4,000 children in Blue Earth, Le Sueur, Nicollet and Waseca counties. The mailings also include a parent resource newsletter.
The City of North Mankato will host volunteers at Fire Station #2 (1825 Howard Drive, North Mankato, MN 56003). Volunteers will be masked and socially distanced.
The Books for Kids program normally ships free Capstone books to children in the four-county region every other month. The program’s recent mailings have been delayed due to COVID-19. Last fall, volunteers helped complete a special mailing of nearly 16,000 books to ensure children received their books for the year.
