Amid ongoing agitation by students, Dhaka University authorities yesterday decided not to hold any exams or reopen student dormitories before May 17.
In accordance with the recent decision by the education ministry, Dhaka University (DU) dormitories would not open and no major exams would be held before May 17, said the university s Vice-Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman.
He came up with the announcement hours after the university s academic council made the decision yesterday morning.
Students will have to get vaccinated before moving into dormitories. But, if anybody cannot get inoculated due to physical condition, their case will be considered as per doctor s prescription, the VC said.

Jahanginagar University authorities yesterday filed a case against 250 unnamed locals who allegedly attacked students on Friday evening over a cricket match.
JU Assistant Registrar (security) Jefrul Hasan confirmed the matter to The Daily Star. I, from the university authority, have filed the case mentioning 250 unnamed attackers with Ashulia Police Station, the number is 59/21, he said.
On Saturday, this decision was taken at an emergency syndicate meeting chaired by JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Farzana Islam.
Meanwhile the protesting students yesterday gave a 24-hour ultimatum in a press briefing to the authorities to file the case and demanded reopening of the campus and dormitories.

Students of Jahangirnagar University today broke open the locks on doors of at least six halls to press home their demands, including reopening of the halls, which have been closed during the pandemic. Over 400 students gathered in front of the university's Shaheed Minar area and took position in front of the vice chancellor's residence around 11:00am.
