KLAMATH, Co. – The Bootleg Fire reaching 5% containment –and growing 10,000 acres since Tuesday. As the community tries to heal, so do the firefighters who are working endlessly to fight the flames. The week-long fire has both firefighters and evacuees drained. But with some new teams coming on-scene and helping, there’s hope. The Bootleg Fire has burned more than 212,000 acres in Klamath County. As of Wednesday evening, the fire is 5% contained. Gert Zoutendijk with the Oregon State Fire Marshal’s office said 21 homes and 54 other structures have burned, and 2,000 homes or structures are threatened. “We’re just waiting it out and waiting to hear what’s going on,” said Kim Bergey, who lives in an evacuation zone. “Some people have already been told they have nothing left and then there’s others like me waiting to see if we still have a property,” she said.

(NBC) – Close to 60 wildfires are burning out of control across the West right now during ongoing heatwaves and, what forecasters call, a mega-drought providing tens-of-thousands of acres of fuel. The fire has destroyed 25 more structures in the last 24-hours bringing the total to 75. The Bootleg Fire is the country’s largest burning wildfire grabbing national attention. With unpredictable fire movement, the week-long fire still has no containment. As the smoke is settling in multiple fire agencies are strategizing how to get ahead of the fire. The Bootleg Fire jumps in growth overnight, crossing into Lake County. “We’re trying to make headway, but this fire just pushes on and on. Since ambers are in front of this fire it’s very challenging,” said Gert Zoutendijk a Bootleg Fire official.
